Tell us a bit about yourself.
I was born and raised just outside of Syracuse. I have been married for 23 years and have a 21-year-old daughter and 14-year-old son. Rounding out the family, we have two black Labs and a cat.
What made you want to explore an education in cybersecurity?
I was selected to get a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification to support the company I work for. After being exposed to that process, I began looking for a more in-depth education.
What is your academic background?
I earned a Bachelor of Computer Science from SUNY Oswego in 1998.
How are you applying what you are learning in your program?
A security-oriented perspective has helped with my day-to-day job. When designing systems, I can provide relevant input.
What do you plan to do after you graduate with your master’s in cybersecurity?
I plan to remain with Lockheed Martin to continue my career. This degree will allow me to leverage more responsibility and possibly a promotion.
Tell us about your experience collaborating with classmates in an online environment.
At first, I did not realize how much I missed the classroom environment. The friendships and help I received before and after class were initially missing. It took some work, but through creating our own meetings, we have been able to collaborate.
What advice do you have for others considering this degree?
Be prepared to work hard with the understanding that it is worth it. I have learned more in the two classes I have taken than in a very long time within industry.
